Being aware of the symbolism of Mars in a person’s comprehensive astrology charts lends vast understanding to his character and personal fate.
I’m pleased to serve as your interpreter, as few desire to take the time to learn comprehensive astrology, which is as challenging to learn as any foreign language.
Mars is commonly recognized as symbolizing masculine energy. Mars as the belligerent warrior is legendary.
Although it largely has a bad reputation, like Saturn, a healthy, well-connected and well-positioned Mars can represent exceptional rewards.
Astrologically speaking, below I list select Mars secrets and features.
- Mars is masculine, malefic, and rules the signs of Aries and Scorpio. Mars is exalted in the sign of Capricorn. Mars in Libra, Taurus, or Cancer is unfavorable, but the adverse energy can be symbolically mitigated in various ways. In other words, the negative or positive energy of any given indicator is diminished or strengthened by the energy of the other hundreds of indicators.
- Mars represents action, vitality, passion, competition, contests, races, brothers, men, military personnel, warriors, professional athletes, mechanics, people who work with sharp objects such as knives (or scissors or scalpels, etc.), engineers, metal workers of all types, police and rescue workers, those who protect such as security guards, crusaders, and fighters of all sorts (physical or philosophical).
- It also represents arguments, disputes, war, looting, fights, torture, violence, surprise attacks, destructive outbursts, cruelty, anger, hatred, counterfeiting, domineering and controlling people, devastation, demolition, disagreements, strife, illegal income, and crooks of all types (similar to Saturn in this way)
- In simple terms, the location and everything related to Mars in the comprehensive charts reveals anger and discord.
- The most potent heavenly body (not the modern astrology “chart ruler,” the Ascendant ruler) in a person’s comprehensive charts and the connected factors and patterns offer a great deal of information about personality traits and personal fate. If it happens to be Mars, the person may have a temper and be prone to occasional outbursts of anger. He or she will also be a fighter and a survivor. The burden they carry often has to do with conflicts and controversy in their professional and, or personal life, and combative relationships of all kinds.
- As with Saturn, also known as a malefic planet, a very healthy and well-positioned Mars can symbolize great riches and honor.
- Astrological transits, in my view, are mostly insignificant. Though I am mindful of transiting Mars (and Saturn), particularly as it hits the natal 1st, 4th, 7th, or 10th Disturbance and disruption are commonplace, as it relates to the unique circumstances of those houses in your comprehensive charts. For example, if Mars is the most potent planet in your comprehensive charts and it’s in a series of nasty patterns involving your 7th house, look out. As it transits your natal 7th, expect problems in partnerships, professional or personal (if corroborated with other factors, as always).
Mars may be known as an aggressive bully, but it can represent rewards too. Mars (and all factors linked to it) reveals a great deal about personal fate, timing, and character.

Dear Scott,
Thanks for another great article. I have Mars in Scorpio in the 2nd House of my Natal Chart, and my Final Dispositor(sp?) is Mars. It is the only Scorpio energy in my chart, and I wonder how it got to have such great importance.
Love and Light,
Kathy
