Every so often there’s a news story about a scientist that claims your astrological sign has changed. Your sign has not changed and it never will change.
Such news stories usually include the obligatory statement by the cynic about astrology not being a science.
I agree that Sun sign astrology, the type of astrology conventional scientists and other skeptics refer to, isn’t a science.
Merriam-Webster dictionary’s definition of science is, “systematic pursuit of knowledge involving the recognition and formulation of a problem, the collection of data through observation and experiment, and the formulation and testing of hypotheses.”
Moving beyond superficial forms of astrology including Sun sign horoscopes, and computer generated reports based on a mere handful of factors like progressions and transits, you find that the astrology covering complex protocols originating between 300 BC and 1700 AD is genuine science.
It’s bewildering how seemingly well-educated scientists appear to be incapable of doing the most basic research regarding astrology. Their blanket dismissal of all astrology isn’t scientific.
If they actually did study the topic, they would learn the following:
- Astrologers have acknowledged the precession of the equinoxes for over 2000 years. Precession makes the solstices, such as the winter solstice around December 21st each year, begin a little earlier each year. The result is about a degree every 70 years (there are 30 degrees in each of the 12 signs).
- The disparity is reflected in the Sidereal zodiac, but not in the Tropical zodiac. The differences between the two zodiacs are outlined in this article. The vast majority of people in the Western world use the Tropical zodiac, thus your Sun sign remains the same no matter what.
- Even those who use the Sidereal zodiac to determine their Sun sign have the same sign they were born with.
- Concerning calculations in astrology software that are affected by precession, such as transits, the software adjusts for the variation.
Regarding using Sidereal zodiac based astrology (i.e., Hindu, Jyotish, Vedic), it won’t give you your “real” Sun sign (or Moon sign, or Ascendant, etc.). The only thing it will do is confuse you if you’re cherry picking single factors instead of learning the comprehensive language of astrology.
Although I advise against relying on mere Sun sign astrology, rest assured, if you were born under a Leo Sun, for example, you will always have a Leo Sun sign. Nothing has changed.
