What Everyone Ought to Know About the Subconscious Mind, Part II

Your mind is comprised of what you are consciously aware of, and what is hidden from your awareness, the subconscious (or unconscious).

Pretending to be absolutely rational in decision-making is an amusing, universal human trait; the subconscious mind guides and even overpowers your thinking, even though you believe your conscious mind is logically determining your behavior.

7 Facts About Your Subconscious Mind:

  1. The subconscious mind’s beliefs can be at odds with conscious views, which creates conflict in your life. For example, if your subconscious mind equates being physically attractive with abuse or some other unpleasant circumstance, it will do everything in its power to make you unappealing (such as guiding you to eat your way to obesity) to shield you from harm. Another example is if your subconscious associates relationships with suffering, it will do what it can to generate conflict and, or keep you single.
  2. Subconscious thinking must be united with conscious desires in order to reach your goals more quickly; it pays to uncover, confront and resolve unconscious personal issues that may be blocking your success.
  3. You mostly can’t control subconscious impressions and how your subconscious operates, which greatly influences your thinking.
  4. It’s possible to modify (e.g., through hypnosis and subliminal programming) many subconscious fears such as fear of flying, fear of abandonment, fear of success, and others, but you must learn to live with most of them, and subconscious defenses can’t really be modified very much.
  5. Subconscious resistance-type defense patterns such as resentment, aggressiveness, defiance, and domineering behavior are some of the more threatening and troubling personality traits and are hard to adjust.
  6. Even more difficult to amend than the above-listed defenses are escape-type subconscious defense patterns such as acute self-deception, secretiveness, and evasiveness.
  7. Though largely illogical, uncontrollable, and always in survival mode like a fearful animal, your subconscious mind serves a very important role in protecting you. It’s the subconscious mind that magically generates a sudden itch on your nose, or the abrupt (false) fear that you forgot to lock your front door while you attempt meditation; your subconscious mind struggles to maintain control as you detach from it through meditation, or otherwise go against its plan.

One of the quickest and most accurate pathways to the subconscious mind’s strengths, fears, defenses, biases, etc. is through graphology, handwriting analysis.
